The rules on calculating pay and bonuses are set out clearly in the Labour Code 2019.
The 2025 National Day holiday
For National Day on 2 September 2025, public officials, civil servants, public employees and workers across the country have 4 days off in total: 2 official public holidays and 2 weekend days. The holiday runs from Saturday 30 August 2025 to the end of Tuesday 2 September 2025 (Gregorian calendar).
Holiday bonuses
On holiday bonuses, Article 104 of the Labour Code 2019 states that a bonus is money, property or another form of reward that the employer gives the employee based on business results and how well the employee has done their work. The bonus rules are decided by the employer and published at the workplace after consulting the grassroots employee representative organisation (if any).
So the current law does not require agencies or businesses to give employees a bonus for National Day on 2 September. Whether there is a bonus depends entirely on each employer’s own rules.
Pay during the holiday and pay for working on the holiday
On pay, the Labour Code 2019 provides that employees keep their full pay during the National Day holiday. If a public holiday falls on a weekly day off, employees get a compensatory day off according to each business’s work schedule. If an employee works during the holiday, they are paid overtime at the statutory rates.
Article 98 of the Labour Code 2019 states that overtime pay is calculated on the unit price or the actual wage for the work being done, at the following rates:
| When the overtime is worked | Minimum overtime rate |
|---|---|
| Normal working day | 150% |
| Weekly day off | 200% |
| Public holiday, Tết holiday or paid day off | 300%, not including the pay for that holiday or paid day off for employees paid by the day |
In addition, employees who work at night are paid at least 30% more, calculated on the unit price or the pay for the same work during the day. So when working during the National Day holiday on 2 September, employees receive at least 300% of their pay, plus 100% holiday pay, a total of 400% compared with a normal working day.
For overtime worked at night on a public holiday, in addition to the amounts above, employees also receive an extra 20% of the pay calculated on the unit price or the pay for daytime work. This applies to normal working days, weekly days off and public and Tết holidays alike.
